Running is arguably one of the best cardio exercises out there. It engages your whole body and it requires a lot of stamina and willpower, but if you’ve though that this exercise is easy – you were wrong.

There are a lot of things you can mess up while running without even noticing up until you step onto the scale, at which point it’s too late. If you want to avoid that, read on to find out what are the most common mistakes you can make while running.

Diversity And Multitasking

Although running is among the top 3 cardio exercises, it’s hardly all you’ll need if you want to lose weight or gain some muscles.

Doing nothing but running will certainly not be enough to achieve your goal.

For example, focusing on your leg muscles with deadlifts, lunges, and squats can greatly improve your power, which allows you to run faster.

More importantly, you have to stretch. Starting a 3-mile power run without preparing first is likely to result in fatigue, cramps, or even muscle tearing.

Don’t Overdo It

We get it – everybody wants good results in a short time. However, this is not what success looks like, which you’ll soon find out if your tactic is to overdo your running workout.

You should take everything in moderation, and running is no exception to this rule. Using every chance you get to run like a lunatic is actually counterproductive, as it can mess up your heart’s rhythm. Create a solid workout plan that sets the distance and the frequency of your running sessions.

Once you’ve determined the distance you’ll run, you’re basically all set. But the point of running lies in beating your record, or at least trying to beat it each time you run.

That’s all fine and dandy, but you shouldn’t be giving your all just to beat that time. If you push yourself over the limit, you’ll actually get tired faster. Instead, ignore your time the next couple of runs and only start pushing yourself further once you’ve built better running capacity.
