If you are in a relationship this winter, don’t be too sure that you will spend the whole holiday season with your family. Chances are, she just might invite you to meet her parents at a Christmas dinner.

It doesn’t matter if your relationship is fresh or was just beginning to get serious – meeting her parents for the first time can be very stressful for men.

But don’t worry – we are here to give you some tips for having that first meeting go as smooth as possible.

Don’t Rely On Luck

You don’t want to go in there with a thousand thoughts in your head, but you also shouldn’t be too relaxed.

Relying on your luck has its way of taking a turn for the worse, and you certainly don’t want to leave a bad first impression.

For example, some topics should be avoided at all costs. Whether it’s politics or LGBT rights, ask your girl about what gets her parents worked up, and what they actually like to talk about.

Be prepared for interrogation – her parents will be curious about your job, family, intensions, and plans, so having a prepared set of answers to these kinds of questions might be a good idea.

Not Too Shabby

Mind what you’ll wear. You don’t want to look like a hobo, and same goes for a tux. If it’s a home dinner, something half-casual will work, while having a restaurant meeting doesn’t mean you should overdress.

The way you look will tell them a lot about you, but whatever you do, try not to look like a slob. Whatever you are wearing, make sure it’s not stained, and remember, dressing nicely won’t just impress her parents, but will also give you a boost in confidence.
