Unusual Socks

It appears that if you are among the guys who are free-spirited enough to experiment with their clothing – namely socks – you just might be a genius.

Wearing crazy and unusual socks and showing your creativity and non-conforming attitude through the clothes you wear is often a sign brilliancy and success.

A recent study that was published in the Journal of Consumer Research suggests that wearing colorful socks speaks volumes about someone’s individuality, creativity and intelligence.

It can also say a lot about how other people perceive you.

Nonconforming Behaviors

The study was based on “the theory that nonconformists are potentially viewed as more competent and having a more high status than those who follow social norms. Its results found that people perceive those with nonconforming behaviors (like wearing crazy socks, for example) as more brilliant and successful,” say folks over at Earthbles.

“Basically, your whacky socks tell people you have zero problems with standing out and that can make you appear to have a higher status and sense of competency. Think of the smart-looking corporate business man wearing an expensive suit, and then you catch a glimpse of his bright green socks. You’ll likely think the choice is deliberate act of rebelliousness that shows a bold character.”

The Study

The leading man behind the research, Dr. Adam Galinsky of the Northwestern University, found that our choice of clothing can indeed affect the way we think and can have a huge impact on our cognitive processes in general.

In fact, what we wear can affect the way we:

  • Think
  • Feel
  • Act

Your uniqueness and confidence can be seen in your crazy socks. If you have the confidence to wear whatever you want, and you are not afraid to embrace it, you are bound to achieve more success in other fields of life as well.

So, the next time you put on your wacky socks, you are sure to get wherever you want to go much faster.

In the end, it’s all about having fun in the process!
